Suffield Stables, ICA, Penske, & Speaker Series

  Suffield Stables LLC Welcome to the spring semester of 2022!     Academic Program Director David Kukurza and Center Director David Kukurza have been very busy and are kicking off the new year in a big way. Here’s what’s up.      Strukel and his fiancé, Kim Harlan, moved to Mogadore (OH) three days before Christmas and have started their own business. It’s a boarding business for horses. Strukel and Harlan have a five-acre property and a 13-stall stable. Kim works in IT and built a website for their business ( SuffieldStables.com ) and it immediately got noticed by a group of horse owners who had their horses at another stable. The next day, after the horse owners and Strukel and Harlan met, everyone agreed to have their horses at Suffield Stables! Strukel says it’s a lot of work maintaining the homes for 8 horses, shoveling manure, and feeding all of the animals but it feels good knowing that the animals have a good home and their owners are happy.  ...

  LaunchHouse Update - Whoa! Dough As described in a  previous blog , entrepreneurship students are working with startups from the LaunchHouse for their 3-week course. One of the startups, Whoa! Dough , had a convention in New York City and brought a Hiram student to help!  Nico Scarlato - Hiram Student  Nico Scarlato is a sophomore at Hiram College and working with Whoa Dough for his 3-week entrepreneurship course. He took advantage of the opportunity to travel with Whoa Dough's Digital Sales Manager, Abby Frederick, and represent the company at the Plant Based World Expo & Convention in New York City.  The first day of the convention was very busy and Nico worked hard giving away samples and networking with business professionals that could benefit Whoa Dough. Etiquette Dining Event & Jordan Mallernee

  Etiquette Dining Event Earlier this week, Kris McGuigan spoke to students on how to stand out in the workplace and gave tips on how to create a lasting first impression. Kris is a successful business owner and mentor for the Hiram Mentorship Program. Camdyn Miller & LaunchHouse

  Camdyn Miller Camdyn is an Accounting and Entrepreneurship student at Hiram College. She is also a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and plans to obtain her CPA license after graduation. As a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs, Camdyn spreads awareness about accounting. On the 2nd of December, she presented at the monthly Scarborough School of Business and Communication meeting. She explained that the accounting field is growing and is estimated to have 140,000 new jobs available by 2024. Urgent Challenges, Final Exams, & Thanksgiving

  Current Events  Recently, the 306 Entrepreneurship class presented their findings in class. The purpose of the class is for students to find a solution to urgent challenges that businesses currently face. This year, the class was split into three groups. The first group was an internal project that worked with Hiram College on ways to retain and recruit students. The second group was also an internal project and worked with Hiram College on ways to better improve diversity, equality, and inclusion around campus. The final group worked with an entrepreneur who created a sling groove that helps train golfers. Overall, students got to experience urgent challenges and find solutions in a real world setting.  Additionally, the Entrepreneurship fall three-week will be starting soon.   Current Events  On November 9th, from 6-7pm in the Forum room of East Hall, the Entrepreneurship Speaker Series will feature guest speaker, Bethanie Jones. Bethanie is a Human Resources executive and start-up business consultant. She will be delivering a speech that focuses on how to deal with adversity and information on how to survive in the current corporate climate. We highly encourage all Hiram  entrepreneurship students to take advantage of this opportunity to learn from a very successful individual.  Bethanie Jones Student Spotlight - Allen Stevens Allen Stevens is a Business Management student from Bedford, Ohio.
