Suffield Stables LLC
Welcome to the spring semester of 2022!
Academic Program Director David Kukurza and Center Director David Kukurza have been very busy and are kicking off the new year in a big way. Here’s what’s up.
Strukel and his fiancé, Kim Harlan, moved to Mogadore (OH) three days before Christmas and have started their own business. It’s a boarding business for horses. Strukel and Harlan have a five-acre property and a 13-stall stable. Kim works in IT and built a website for their business (SuffieldStables.com) and it immediately got noticed by a group of horse owners who had their horses at another stable. The next day, after the horse owners and Strukel and Harlan met, everyone agreed to have their horses at Suffield Stables! Strukel says it’s a lot of work maintaining the homes for 8 horses, shoveling manure, and feeding all of the animals but it feels good knowing that the animals have a good home and their owners are happy.

Strukel and the ICA
The second week of January brought EXCITING news for David Strukel! Strukel had been
working on a research project for the last two years with two colleagues from Michigan State, Linda White and Saleem Alhabash. They conducted a survey on nontraditional students pursuing an advanced degree and the factors for success. They wrote a paper and submitted it to the International Communication Association for their annual conference and it was accepted for a Poster Session at their conference in Paris, France in late May! The next step is to submit their work for publication in an academic journal. Eventually, they would like to write a book, a how-to for nontraditional students going back to school for a master's or a doctoral degree.

Penske Visit
On Friday, January 21st, David Kukurza and David Strukel were guests at Penske’s Oakwood, Ohio offices to meet up with the management team. Strukel says he and Kukurza were given a presentation on Penske’s Management Trainee Program by the team at Penske. Strukel and Kukurza learned about all of the opportunities for students at Penske, not just as interns but also for future careers. 80% of Penske’s current leadership team came through their Management Trainee Program. Strukel says he is looking to create more ways to partner with Penske through internships, job fairs on campus, and other events. Penske is the first company to be on the advisory board for Kukurza's HPP (High Performance Program) students. A Penske job interview/career day is being planned for Hiram College. More information to will be available soon!
