IdeaBuild Results
On March 24th, The Burton D. Morgan Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College hosted the 2022 IdeaBuild. The IdeaBuild is a competition for students to pitch an innovative idea to a panel of judges for a chance to receive $1,500 in total prize money! The judges determine the top three finishers based on the overall idea, market needs, and quality of the presentation. A separate prize of $900 was also awarded for the best sustainable idea. This year had some great presentations and ideas from all nine groups/individuals that participated. Let's check out the winners!
1st Place - Landfill Gym Bags
Landfill Gym Bags was an idea presented by Tommy Rink. The idea was to purchase canvas material clothes at a heavy discount from clothing manufacturers before they get burned or sent to landfills. Tommy would then use the materials from the clothes to make a duffle bag that would be sold to consumers. The bags would be marketed to the fitness community because it is a booming industry with lots of potential. Overall, Landfill Gym Bags would help make the clothing industry more sustainable while also providing a quality gym bag for consumers.

2nd Place - Heels on Wheels
The second place winner was a group of five students: Ashanti Wright, LaDhavion Duncan, Marcus Freeman, Cameron King, and Tobias Hass. The groups's idea was an innovative animal transportation service. Heels on Wheels would give busy pet owners the ability to schedule a driver to pick up their pet and bring it to the vet or groomers. The group plans to also transport large animal to events across the nation. Overall, Heels on Wheels follows an Uber structure but is designed for pets and large animals.

3rd Place - Cheer Recruiting App
The third place winner was a group of four students: Alexa Wilcox, Zach Shannon, Ashley Rutkowski, and Dean Hoyle. The group's idea was to create a recruitment app for cheerleading. Their idea works similarly to other recruitment platforms; however, it would be specifically built for people that participate in cheer. The app would make recruitment much easier for colleges and help the cheer athletes find a school that meets their needs. Overall, the app helps connect aspiring college cheer athletes with schools and recruiters.

Sustainability Award
A prize was also given to a team/individual that pitched the most sustainable idea. The winners of the prize was split three ways to the following groups/individuals: Landfill Gym Bags (Tommy Rink), The Hiram Thrift Store (Blake Erman & Neil Robertson), and Anyone Can Cook Podcast (Noah Wordell). The Hiram Thrift Store was a non-profit idea to bring a thrift store on to Hiram Campus. This would allow students to drop off unwanted items that could be used by someone else that needs it. The Hiram Thrift Store also hopes to connect the college community with the Hiram Village residents. The Anyone Can Cook Podcast was an idea to interview people that carve their own path in hopes to inspire other to be better at expressing themselves.
