Madison Sommers, Awards Dinner & Study Away Update

  Student Spotlight - Madison Sommers: Madison is a senior from Rootstown, Ohio and set to graduate from Hiram in May with a degree in Biology and minor in Entrepreneurship. For fun, she helps coach a softball team in her hometown.  Madison decided to minor in entrepreneurship because she wants to eventually own a large animal veterinary clinic. After graduating from Hiram, she plans to continue school at  Stautzenberger College  to become a licensed veterinary technician.  The entrepreneurship courses have taught Madison critical thinking skills and helped her develop a mindset needed to achieve her goals. Burton D. Morgan Foundation, Penske & Brennan Cain

  Burton D. Morgan Foundation Visit: On April 21, the Entrepreneurship class took a visit to  The Burton D. Morgan Foundation in Hudson, Ohio. The class was greeted by the President and CEO, Deborah Hoover and Senior Program Officer, Angela Evans . They both had a welcoming spirit and gave an amazing presentation about their foundation.  The Burton D. Morgan Foundation is an  amazing resource for entrepreneurs of all ages and works closely with Hiram College. The foundation supports entrepreneurship programs such as idea competitions, ARCHangels , and Bounce .  Trip to Penske: On April 22, the Entrepreneurship class took a trip to Penske in Oakland, Ohio to meet the management team and learn more about available careers through their Management Trainee Program. New GA - Brianna Burns, HPP Meeting, IdeaLabs

  New GA - Brianna Burns: Brianna Burns is a Hiram senior originally from Memphis, Tennessee and is set to graduate in May of 2022 with a degree in Integrative Exercise Science. She is a current member of Alpha Zeta Theta, Black Student Union, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion officer for SAAC, 3rd year captain of Cheer & Stunt, and also East Hall's Head Residential Assistant.  Bri has interned as an assistant coach for Cheer & Stunt as well as the strengthening & conditioning coach for football. She has worked as a Hiram tour guide for four years and Resident Assistant for three years. Lastly, Bri is a brand ambassador for Aesthetic Accessories which is ran by a Hiram Alumni, Nikkia Schady.  Next year, Bri will be the Graduate Assistant (GA) for East Hall. N.C. Study Away & Jack Meinert

  N.C. Study Away Trip Towards the end of this month, eight entrepreneurship students will be taking a trip to North Carolina and staying in Chapel Hill to explore the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Before the class leaves for North Carolina, they will be also be visiting various locations in NE, Ohio such as PENSKE Trucking, The Burton D. Morgan Foundation , Jeff Bradish's Executive Suites, Youngstown Business Incubator , Bounce Innovation , Rock and Roll Hall of Fame , Portage Development Board , and JumpStart .  While in North Carolina, the class will visit the First Flight Venture Center , The Launch Factory , Taylor Communications , Raleigh IBM , Lithios , Wrightsville Beach , and some great places to eat! The trip is a great way for students to expand their overall knowledge of the entrepreneurship ecosystem and meet successful entrepreneurs while having fun. 2022 IdeaBuild Winners

  IdeaBuild Results On March 24th, The Burton D. Morgan Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College hosted the 2022 IdeaBuild.  The IdeaBuild is a competition for students to pitch an innovative idea to a panel of judges for a chance to receive $1,500 in total prize money! The judges determine the top three finishers based on the overall idea, market needs, and quality of the presentation. A separate prize of $900 was also awarded for the best sustainable idea. This year had some great presentations and ideas from all nine groups/individuals that participated. Let's check out the winners! 1st Place - Landfill Gym Bags Landfill Gym Bags was an idea presented by Tommy Rink. The idea was to purchase canvas material clothes at a heavy discount from clothing manufacturers before they get burned or sent to landfills. The judges will determine the top three finishers based on the overall idea, market needs, and quality of the presentation.  2020 IdeaBlitz Winners Mentor Highlight - Robbie Anderson Robbie Anderson is a member of the Hiram Mentorship Program and currently the owner of a State Farm Agency in North Olmsted, Ohio. Robbie graduated from the University of Houston in 1993 with an accounting focused M.B.A. After graduation, he worked at Continental Airlines for 21 years and worked his way up to the Vice President position for the Cleveland Hub. Robbie then became the President of Cargo for United Airlines in Chicago before returning to the Cleveland area to open his own State Farm Agency....

Student Venture Update & Microgrants

  Student Venture Update As discussed in a previous blog , three groups of Hiram entrepreneurship students are currently running their own business on campus. The three businesses include Mad Batter, Hiram Tees, and Tribe Clothing Brand. With the semester coming to an end, these businesses are looking to end strong! Mad Batter is a baked goods business that is focused on selling to students on Hiram campus. They have totaled an estimated 300+ sales in a short span of two months. The team plans to continue following their business plan and grow their sales.  Hiram Tees is a T-shirt business that is focused on making unique shirts with funny slogans. The team slightly changed their business plan and decided to accept custom orders. To make the custom orders, the team purchased a printing press so they could create the shirt in-house and decrease the turnaround time on the order.
