HPP, Big Announcement & Bill Childers

Current Events

The High Performance Program has been off to a great start! Participating students have been meeting weekly for Toastmasters and improving their public speaking and communication skills. Additionally, the students recently had a meeting where they discussed a number of topics such as dealing with adversity and how to properly take an objection. The skills being developed through the HPP will enhance the student's ability to strive in today's evolving market.

Mentor Spotlight - Bill Childers

Bill is an entrepreneur that grew up in Lima, Ohio. He attended Miami University for his undergrad and then went to University of Toledo College of Law. Towards the end of school, Bill read the book What Color is My Parachute and realized that he did not want to pursue a career in politics and run for election. He liked the idea of being at home for dinner each night and knew public office was a very demanding job.

Bill began to network and was eventually presented with a job opportunity be the Executive Director for Ravenna Robinson Memorial Hospital. Eventually, Bill became the President and CEO of United Way of Portage County where he sells healthcare and education.

Bill is a heavy believer in the value of networking and recommends everyone to carry a business card, even if they are not a business owner. He credits a large portion of his success based on the people he has surrounded himself around. "Nothing can be accomplished by yourself and it is important to have resources to fall back on. Be appropriately aggressive when networking because you have to go after what you want in life, it will not happen by itself" (Bill Childers).
